Trusting Your Body Again
Share

For a long time, I believed strength meant pushing through. If I was tired, I pushed through. If I were overwhelmed, I pushed through. If my body was asking for rest, I convinced myself I could rest later. After losing my beloved husband, I became very good at surviving. I could show up to work, take care of responsibilities, smile when needed, and keep moving forward. From the outside, it probably looked like resilience. But underneath it all, my body was carrying on a conversation I wasn't willing to have.
What I know now is that grief doesn't only live in our hearts and minds. It lives in our bodies too. It settles into our shoulders, our sleep, our energy, and our nervous systems. The exhaustion I felt wasn't laziness. The tension wasn't weakness. The tears that appeared without warning weren't inconveniences. They were messages. My body had been trying to tell me what my mind wasn't yet ready to hear.
For years, I trusted productivity more than I trusted myself. I trusted logic more than intuition. I trusted keeping it together more than listening to what I actually needed. But healing has taught me that our bodies are not obstacles to overcome. They are sacred companions on this journey. They carry our stories, our losses, our joys, and our healing. They know when we're carrying too much. They know when we're exhausted. They know when we're grieving. The question isn't whether your body is speaking. The question is whether you're listening.
Trusting your body again doesn't mean you'll have all the answers. It doesn't mean every signal will make sense immediately. It simply means being curious rather than dismissive. It means pausing before pushing through. It means asking yourself what you need before demanding more from yourself. It means recognizing that the same body that carried you through heartbreak is also carrying you toward healing.
So today, instead of trying to fix anything, I want to invite you to listen. Place your hand over your heart. Take a breath. Ask yourself, "What are you trying to tell me?" And then give yourself permission to hear the answer.
Day 1 is now live. Take what you need. Leave what you don't.
You are not broken. You are becoming.
