I Can Move Forward Again
Share
For a long time, the words move forward felt impossible to say.
They sounded too permanent, too final, almost as if moving forward meant leaving my beloved husband behind. I worried that if I embraced a new chapter, I might somehow diminish the life we shared or the love that still lived in my heart.
So I stood still. Not because I wanted to. Because I didn't know how to move without feeling like I was letting go of something sacred. But healing has a gentle way of changing the meaning of things.
I've learned that moving forward isn't an act of forgetting. It's an act of trusting. It's trusting that love isn't measured by how long we stay in our pain. It's trusting that memories don't disappear simply because we begin making new ones. It's trusting that our hearts are capable of holding grief and gratitude, yesterday and tomorrow, all at the same time.
When I look back at the woman I was in those first months after loss, I see someone who was simply trying to survive the next hour. The thought of building a business, traveling to new places, laughing until my stomach hurt, or opening my heart to possibility again felt so far away that I couldn't even imagine it.
Yet here I am. Not because healing happened overnight. But because I kept taking one small step after another. Some days those steps were almost invisible. Getting out of bed. Taking a walk. Calling a friend. Saying yes to an invitation. Booking a trip. Starting Sacred After. Recording one podcast episode. Writing one journal page.
None of those moments felt extraordinary by themselves. Together, they became a new life. Maybe that's what moving forward really is. Not one giant leap into the unknown.
But a thousand quiet decisions to keep choosing life.
If you're standing at the edge of your next chapter, wondering if you're ready, I want you to know that readiness doesn't always feel like confidence.
Sometimes it feels like curiosity. Sometimes it feels like exhaustion mixed with hope. Sometimes it feels like taking the next step before you know exactly where the path will lead.
And that's enough.
You don't need to have all the answers before you begin. You only have to believe that your life is still worthy of becoming. So today, ask yourself this:
What is one small step I can take toward the life that's waiting for me?
Don't worry about the whole journey. Just honor the next step. Because healing was never asking you to stay where your heart was broken. It was gently inviting you to keep walking. And when you look back one day, you'll realize that every small step carried you somewhere beautiful.
