A Love Letter to Healing

You Are Allowed To Become Someone New

I kept asking myself the same question: "When will I feel like myself again?" I thought healing meant finding my way back to the woman I used to be. I believed that one day the fog would lift, life would return to normal, and I would somehow recognize the person staring back at me in the mirror. I waited for that feeling for a long time. But as the years passed, I realized something unexpected. That woman wasn't coming back. Not because she was gone, but because life had invited me into someone new.

At first, that realization felt like another loss. I mourned the version of myself who had never known heartbreak. The woman who made plans without wondering what could go wrong. The woman who believed life would unfold exactly as she imagined. I missed her. But the more I leaned into my healing, the more I began to see that she wasn't the only version of me worth loving.

A different woman was emerging. A woman who had discovered strength she never knew she possessed. A woman who understood that compassion isn't learned from comfort, but from walking through pain. A woman who had learned to choose herself, to trust her intuition, to protect her peace, and to build a life that reflected who she had become instead of who she used to be. She wasn't a replacement for the old me. She was the evolution of everything I had lived through.

Looking back now, I don't wish I could go back to the woman I was before grief. I honor her. I thank her for the life she lived and the love she experienced. But I also celebrate the woman standing here today. She's the one who found purpose in the ashes. She's the one who created Sacred After. She's the one who decided that loss would not have the final word over her life. She's the one who learned that healing isn't about returning to who you were. It's about becoming someone even more aligned with who you're meant to be.

Maybe you've been holding yourself to an impossible standard, trying to fit back into a version of yourself that no longer exists. If that's you, I want to offer you something I wish someone had offered me.

You don't have to go back and you don't have to become who you once were to prove you've healed.

You are allowed to grow, to change. You are allowed to discover new dreams, new passions, new boundaries, and new ways of living that honor the person you've become.

The life you've lived has shaped you, but it does not limit you. Every lesson, every scar, every joyful moment, and every heartbreak has become part of the foundation you're standing on today. You are not beginning again as someone less.

You are stepping forward as someone more. So stop asking yourself when you'll feel like your old self again.

Instead, ask yourself the question that changed everything for me.

Who am I becoming? I have a feeling she's going to surprise you.

Take what you need. Leave what you don't.

You are not broken. You are becoming.
