Day 27: I am Allowed To Live Again
Share

For a long time, I confused surviving with living.
For so many years, surviving felt like enough. If I made it through the day, I counted it as a victory. If I got out of bed, answered a phone call, or remembered to eat, I celebrated the smallest wins because some days those were the only wins I had.
There is no shame in surviving. Sometimes surviving is the bravest thing you'll ever do. But healing has a quiet way of asking a different question. Not, "Can you make it through today?" But, "What if you could truly live again?" That question scared me more than I expected.
Living meant opening my heart to experiences I thought I'd never have again. It meant saying yes to opportunities that once felt out of reach. It meant laughing without immediately apologizing for it. It meant planning trips, making memories, building a business that was born from my deepest pain, and believing there was still purpose waiting for me.
At first, every joyful moment carried a little guilt. How could I laugh when someone I loved was no longer here? How could I celebrate when my story had been marked by such profound loss?
Over time, I realized those questions weren't coming from love. They were coming from grief that hadn't yet learned it could coexist with joy. The truth is, the people who have loved us well don't leave us hoping we'll spend the rest of our lives standing still. Love doesn't ask us to shrink. It doesn't ask us to close the curtains on the rest of our story.
Love expands us. It becomes part of the strength we carry into every new beginning.
Today, when I travel, when I pour myself into Sacred After, when I care for my body, when I laugh with friends, or when I dream about what comes next, I don't feel like I'm leaving my past behind.
I feel like I'm honoring it. Because the love I experienced taught me how precious this life truly is. Maybe you've been waiting for someone to give you permission to stop merely existing and start living again. Let this be that permission. You don't have to earn your joy. You don't have to apologize for your healing. You don't have to explain why your heart is beginning to open again. Life is not asking you to forget what you've lost. It is inviting you to fully receive what is still here.
So today, take one small step toward living. Call the friend. Book the trip. Start the class. Plant the flowers. Dance in the kitchen.
Say yes to the invitation.
Whatever reminds you that your heart is still capable of wonder.Because surviving brought you this far. Living is what carries you forward.
Day 27 of Sacred After is now live.
