You Are Not Starting Over

Day 24: You Are Not Starting Over

One of the greatest lies grief ever whispered to me was that I had to start over.

After losing Malcolm, it felt as though everything I had carefully built had disappeared overnight. The future we had imagined together was suddenly gone, and I found myself standing in a life I never would have chosen. There were moments when I looked around and wondered if I was beginning from nothing, as if all the years before had somehow been erased by one heartbreaking chapter.

But time has a beautiful way of revealing what grief initially hides. I wasn't starting over. I was starting differently. There is a profound difference between the two.

Starting over suggests you've lost everything that came before. It implies you're back at the beginning with empty hands and nothing to carry forward. But that's not what healing does. Healing gathers every lesson you've learned, every tear you've cried, every prayer you've whispered, every scar you've earned, and quietly places them into your hands as you continue the journey.

The woman I am today is not the woman I was before loss. She couldn't be. She has lived through experiences that reshaped her heart, challenged her faith, and taught her the true meaning of resilience. She has learned that strength isn't about never breaking. It's about finding the courage to keep building after life breaks your heart.

When I created Sacred After, I wasn't beginning from nothing. I was building from experience. Every page, every reflection, every podcast episode carries the wisdom that only comes from walking this path myself. My story didn't reset. It expanded.

Maybe you've been telling yourself that you're starting over too. Maybe a divorce, a diagnosis, the loss of someone you love, or an unexpected life change has convinced you that everything you built no longer matters.

I want to gently offer you another perspective. Nothing you've lived through has been wasted. The love you gave still matters. The lessons you learned still matter. The strength you've discovered still matters. Even the pain has become part of the foundation you're standing on today.

You are not beginning from emptiness. You're beginning with wisdom. With compassion. With resilience. With a deeper understanding of what truly matters. And that's a very different place to begin.

So the next time you catch yourself saying, "I'm starting over," pause for a moment and replace it with something truer.

"I'm starting again." Not from the beginning.

But from experience.
